Paint Color Matcher — Photo & Brand Studio (Paint Color Matcher: Find What Paint Color This Is & Match My Paint Color from Any Photo)
11,249 Colors • CIE ΔE2000 & CAT16
Sample any wall in your room photo or match my paint color across brands. Our spectral engine compensates for warm 2700K lightbulbs and shadows using CAT16 chromatic adaptation, matching 11,249 official fan-deck colors from Behr, Sherwin-Williams, and Benjamin Moore.
Direct factory fan-deck equivalents across Behr (Home Depot), Sherwin-Williams, and Benjamin Moore—ranked by perceptual ΔE2000 distance and LRV parity.
Indistinguishable on adjacent walls; safe for whole-room cross-brand substitution.
1.0 – 2.0
Close Commercial Alternative
Slight shift visible only when wet-on-dry swatches touch directly; ideal between rooms.
> 2.5 ΔE
Visible Undertone Divergence
Noticeable hue or LRV shift; always test a peel-and-stick sample under room lighting.
SPEC 01CAMERA & LIGHTING CALIBRATION
How accurate is matching a paint color from a phone photo?
Unadjusted smartphone photos shift paint colors by ΔE 6.0–14.0 because auto-white-balance and 2700K indoor bulbs inject yellow-orange cast. By tapping a white baseboard or ceiling trim first, our 2-step Bradford CAT16 chromatic adaptation strips room lighting cast and recovers accuracy within ΔE 1.2–2.2.
Combined with a 15×15px median spatial kernel that filters out drywall orange-peel micro-shadows and JPEG compression noise, you get the true D65 daylight reflectance of the wall before querying 11,249 official fan-deck formulas.

SPEC 02CIE ΔE2000 PERCEPTUAL TOLERANCE
What is ΔE 2000 (Delta E) and why does a score under 1.0 matter?
CIE ΔE 2000 measures perceptual color distance weighted for human eye sensitivity to lightness (L*), chroma (C*), and hue rotation (h°). A ΔE2000 score below 1.0 is virtually indistinguishable to the human eye on adjacent walls, while 1.0 to 2.0 represents a close cross-brand commercial match.
Unlike naive RGB Euclidean distance tools that confuse warm greiges with cool purples, our engine cross-verifies every match in both CIELAB (ΔE2000) and CAM16-UCS uniform appearance space so undertones never clash with your trim or flooring.

SPEC 03CROSS-BRAND MIXING REALITY
Can Home Depot (Behr) or Lowe’s mix Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams colors?
Hardware stores can scan or look up competitor codes, but because Behr, Sherwin-Williams, and Benjamin Moore use different titanium dioxide base levels and proprietary colorant pastes, a custom computer-mixed cross-brand formula often shifts under evening LED light (metamerism).
Instead of asking a paint desk to force-tint a competitor formula into an incompatible base, use our Cross-Brand Equivalent Matrix above to select the native pre-formulated factory swatch with the lowest ΔE2000 and identical LRV.

SPEC 04LIGHT REFLECTANCE & H-K EFFECT
How do Light Reflectance Value (LRV) and Undertones behave in dark rooms?
Light Reflectance Value (LRV 0–100%) measures the percentage of visible light a painted surface reflects. However, high-LRV paint will not magically brighten a windowless or north-facing room without sufficient illumination—in low light, unlit high-LRV whites often appear dingy gray.
We also calculate Helmholtz-Kohlrausch (H-K) perceived lightness (L*_HK), which accounts for chromatic glow in saturated sages, navies, and terracottas that look brighter to the eye than their raw Y-tristimulus LRV suggests.
